Kourtney Kardashian uses Milkscreen to test her breast milk for alcohol:
I’m taking a couple of my best friends out on a yacht and I’m excited to go out and get wild and party!
Let’s do a toast to Courtney and Al being in town. And to my first drink in almost a year. Honestly I can still have fun and be a mom. I’m definitely going to let loose like I used to. Party time is over. Now it’s time to pump.
Will you get me my Milkscreen strips. They test the breast milk to see if there is alcohol so I know if I need to save this breast milk or throw it away.
The alcohol has finally left my system and this whole thing has made me realize that just because I don’t want to be a boring mom doesn’t mean I have to be a crazy mom either. You like my milk just the way it is. There‘s probably a little place right in between that’s just right.

As doctors we love answering your questions and so far there’s been no shortage. So let’s kick off today’s Ask our Doctors with an email question. Anne from Florida writes. Dr. Sears I am a new mom and I enjoy having a drink every once in a while. How can I know if there is alcohol in my breast milk?
That’s a good question. What I usually say is you can have a drink or two but if you’re feeling a little tipsy then the alcohol gets into your breast milk and you shouldn’t breastfeed.
An hour or two, three later when it has been metabolized then it actually passes back out of the breast milk and back into your blood and gets metabolized. Whether you’re feeling tipsy or not well that may be a little guess work and there’s actually a great test now called Milkscreen. It’s actually a little litmus test. Just dip the test strip into the breast milk and knock off the extra and you just wait. And you can see if you’re done partying with your girlfriends yet or not. It just takes a couple of minutes to read. You compare with the test strip and this shows is positive.
Are mother’s using that [Milkscreen] if they decide to go out and have a glass of wine? It is great information for mothers that are breastfeeding. So they can go out for a glass of wine at dinner and go home. Or get Dad to babysit and go out with your girlfriends. They have a website Milkscreen.com. Clearly you have not been testing your breast milk.

We’ve got Julie Jumonville from UpSpring Baby on Dad Labs today. Thanks for coming in.
Glad to be here with a cool mompreneur who’s got some excellent products. Why don’t you talk to us a little bit about what’s UpSpring all about. Let’s start with Milkscreen – Milkscreen is the first ever test to detect the presence of alcohol in breast milk. So if mom goes to a special occasion, a wedding, or has something going on where it calls for that glass of wine she can know when the alcohol has left her breast milk. You know I love this because Dads we are in favor of that glass of wine, aren’t we. The breastfeeding mom. We want her to be relaxed and happy. So now it’s not just a pump and dump situation. Now just as soon as she has a drink she doesn’t just have to pump that breast milk and dump it out. That’s correct. As moms we err on the side of caution and we worry about our kids because they are our number one product so we created Milkscreen, a product where there’s no guesswork. Every woman’s metabolism is different and we have something that can tell mom if alcohol is present in her breast milk. This is very helpful – Milkscreen is one of those products that makes day to day life easier for breastfeeding moms.
